Frequently Asked Questions

need any help?

Planning a wedding comes with many questions — and we're here to make things easy. Below are some of the most common questions couples ask about our wedding officiant services. If you don’t see your question answered, feel free to contact us.

No. In Quebec, couples do not need to apply for a separate marriage license. As officiants authorized by the Directeur de l’État civil, we act as your licensing agents. We’ll collect the required information and complete a government form called the DEC-50 on your behalf. We handle the entire legal process, including the filing and registration of your marriage. There is a mandatory 20-day publication period that includes the wedding date and venue, so it's important to plan ahead to meet this requirement.

Do we need to get a marriage license?

Yes. There are no residency requirements to get legally married in Quebec. Couples from other provinces or countries are welcome!

Can non-residents get married in Quebec?

That depends on where you live. In Quebec, residents cannot assume their spouse’s last name regardless of where the marriage took place. You may be able to use your spouse’s name for social or symbolic use.

Can I take my spouse’s last name after?

No. While guests are welcome to join virtually, Quebec law requires that the couple, officiant, and two witnesses be physically present together during the ceremony and legal signing for it to be valid.

Can we get married via video chat?

Our wedding officiating package is $800. Additional fees may apply for travel outside our service area or for custom additions.

For those seeking a legal signing only, we offer a streamlined option at our office for $550. This includes a short, non-personalized ceremony with the option to exchange rings and/or vows if you wish.

How much do your officiant services cost?

Yes! We love helping couples celebrate milestone anniversaries with custom vow renewal ceremonies. Whether intimate or elaborate, we’re honoured to be part of your continued love story.

Do you perform vow renewals?

Of course! At Rose Gold Celebrations, we celebrate love in all its beautiful forms. Whether your wedding is same-sex, queer, trans-inclusive, or anywhere on the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum, it would be our honour to officiate your ceremony with the respect and joy it deserves.

Do you perform LGBTQIA2S+ weddings?

We recommend booking as soon as you’ve confirmed your venue. Especially for peak seasons. Your officiant is a key part of the day, and we’re here to make your ceremony legal, meaningful, and memorable. Reach out early to secure your date.

When should we book your services?

Got you with that title, didn’t we? 😉  We love when couples think outside the box! While flower girls and ring bearers are traditional, why not invite your grandmothers to be Flower Grandmas or have your grandfathers present the rings? It’s a beautiful way to honour the generations that came before you, and we’re all for it.

Can we break tradition with the wedding party roles?

We’ll come to the location of your choice — whether that’s your home, cottage, a banquet hall, hotel, or outdoor venue. Ceremonies can be held almost anywhere that is accessible to the public and has a civic address in Quebec.

Where can we get married?

Our ceremonies typically last 25 to 30 minutes. The exact length depends on your selected script, any added rituals (like a unity ceremony), or personal touches.

How long is the ceremony?

Our officiants typically wear a simple dark coloured dress or professional attire to blend seamlessly into the background. If you have a theme and would like us to coordinate, we’re happy to discuss this.

What do your officiants wear?

We actually recommend reading your vows from a printed page or vow booklet, rather than from your phone or memorizing them.

Do we need to memorize our vows?

A rehearsal isn’t always required, but it depends on the complexity of your ceremony and your comfort level. Our presence is optional, as we do not rehearse the full script or vows. A walkthrough with your wedding party is often enough. If you’d like us to attend, we offer rehearsal services for an additional fee (starting around $150, depending on the location and time commitment).

Is a rehearsal necessary?

That’s a kind offer, but no, we do not stay for dinner. After your ceremony, we’ll provide your copy of the DEC-50, pack up, wish you all the best, and leave you to celebrate with your loved ones.

Do you stay for dinner?

Absolutely. In the very unlikely event that your assigned officiant is unable to perform your ceremony, one of our trusted colleagues from the Rose Gold Celebrations team will step in to ensure your day goes off without a hitch.

Do you have an emergency backup plan?

Not at all. While gratuities are always appreciated, they are not expected. The best way to say thank you? Leave us a Google review and refer a friend. Some couples do all of the above and we’re so grateful!
